Details About Baby Acne Treatment

Acne is very common in babies especially newborns although ‘baby acne’ sounds strange. It is quite disturbing for the parents of the newborns to see acne on their baby’s face which is usually a disorder that is found in the teenage boys and girls. Although acne is related to teenage children, it is also found in the newborn babies. The different types of acne that are found in babies are pustules, papules, blackheads, and whiteheads. It is found that baby acne occurs on the cheeks of the babies and rarely on the forehead and the chin or other areas of the body. Baby acne usually affects babies between two weeks old to two months old. It is usually present up to 4 to 6 months old. It is not even necessary to have special treatments for acne since it usually goes away on its own. If the baby’s skin is hot there is every chance that acne will appear on the skin. Even when the baby is upset there is a chance of acne appearing on the skin. When the acne appears on the skin of the baby, cloths that are washed using harsh detergents should not be used on the baby. Using such cloths will only worsen the situation.

It is usually known that an imbalance of hormones is the reason for the appearance of acne in our body. In the case of the babies, influx of fetal hormones just before birth would cause acne in the skin of the baby. Hormones such as dehydroepiandrosterone are responsible for the appearance of acne in the baby. Once breast feeding is finished these hormones will be out of the system of the baby and acne will disappear. In case of strong acne present in the skin you can use a mild soap that will get rid of acne. Mile topical cream or gel that contains benzoyl peroxide in proportions that is recommended for babies can be used to clear up acne in babies. Consulting your pediatrician before using any solutions for treating baby acne is advisable. Cleaning with water alone or using a mild soap is a better solution since acne will be gone on its own. Products like Therapeutic Baby Bar Soap and Therapeutic Baby Lotion-Skin Care Treatment are available in the market which can be used for baby acne.
