Chronic Stress Syndrome - An Overview
Chronic stress
is the stress that wears out the people day after day. This kind
of stress alters the personality of the person so that they may
not know that they have chronic stress. They look at the world in
a different perspective. Chronic stress leads to chronic fatigue
syndrome. The symptoms of stress are general pain in the body, sleep
disturbances, tension and migraine headaches. Heart burn, acid stomach
or upset stomach, and irritable bowel syndrome are some of the physical
symptoms are being in stress. People with stress can also suffer
from asthma, high blood pressure, fatigue, skin problems, sweaty
hands and feet, reproductive problems and a weak immune system that
results in frequent cold, flu and infections.
Hair loss, irregular
heartbeat, chest pain, weight gain or loss, irregular food habits,
and growth inhibition are also some of the physical symptoms of
chronic stress syndrome. These physical symptoms can also be caused
by other diseases. Hence a patient should be diagnosed properly
whether these symptoms are due to stress in their life. Chronic
stress may cause the person affected to stop searching for a solution
for the problem he is facing. This is the adverse situation in which
the person will be in. Relaxing techniques and simple exercises
are recommended for such persons. Yoga may be of more use to such
persons which helps them to relax their mind and body and emerge
as a stronger person in life.
Simple physical
exercises are also recommended since they keep them active. For
people who suffer from sleep disturbances mild sedative anti depressants
can be given. The dosages of these anti depressants that are given
to them are very minimal when compared to the treatment given to
the depression patients. Emotional symptoms are also found in chronic
stress syndrome patients. Emotional symptoms like nervousness, depression,
memory problems, lack of concentration and overreactions are some
of the emotional symptoms and these may affect the performance of
the person at work place or play. Better consult a doctor on the
different ways to combat these stress related symptoms.
