Simple Athletes Foot TreatmentThe growth of fungus taenia pedis in the feet and in between the toes caused the condition called athletes foot. Athletes foot causes flaky, itchy and red rash between the toes and also nearby foot. The medicines used for treating the athletes foot are available in different forms such as creams, powders, sprays and tablets. Available drugs include clotrimazole (Lotrimin®), miconazole (Micatin®), terbinafine (Lamisil®), undecylenic acid (Desenex®) and tolnaftate (Tinactin®, Aftate®). Econazole (Spectazole®), ketoconazole (Nizoral®), and ciclopirox (Loprox®) are the recent topical preparations used to treat athletes foot. Drying powders of anti-fungal can be used inside the socks and shoes to reduce dampness and moisture inside the shoe through out the day. Tablets of Lamisil (terbafine Hcl) found to be effective in the athlete foot infection. Care should be taken in Lamisil tablet intake, since it affects Liver. Athlete foot affected diabetic patients should seek the medical advice immediately and should not try to treat this condition them selves. Garlic is one of the potent anti-fungal antiseptic. This is widely used to get rid of the athletes foot condition. This can be applied in different forms such as garlic oil and garlic foot bath. The next potent anti-fungal agent from the natures garden is Ginger. Ginger is rich in caprylic acid, one of the 23 antifungal agents present in the ginger. A strong decoction is prepared by mixing one ounce of chopped ginger root to 150 ml of boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes and apply the decoction directly in to the affected area twice daily with cotton ball or clean cloth. Adding 10 to 15 chopped licorice sticks to the garlic footbath can be effective immune builders, an important component for long term healing and preventing of athlete's foot infections.
