Hemmorrhoids
Treatment Information
What are
Hemorrhoids?
A swollen and inflamed condition of the veins in and around the
anus and lower portion of the rectum is known as hemorrhoids. Commonly
known as piles, hemorrhoids in most cases are not so serious but
can cause a greater level of discomfort. Some of the factors that
attribute to hemorrhoids include chronic constipation, diarrhea,
pregnancy, severe coughing, and anal intercourse. Hemorrhoids are
of two types; internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are formed
in the rectum while external hemorrhoids are formed in the areas
surrounding the anus.

Prevention
Prevention is the better way to avoid the occurance of hemorrhoids.
Some of our common habits seem to be the main cause of hemorrhoids.
The habits include dietary habits, toilet habits, and exercising.
Diet can play a major role in the prevention of hemorrhoids. Eating
a lot of processed food increases the chance of getting hemorrhoids,
as there is no fiber content in those foods. This results in the
difficulties in passing the stool which leads to straining on the
toilet. You need to increase the intake of fiberous contents such
as bran cereal, fruits and vegetables, to prevent hemorrhoid. In
addition, you need to drink more amounts of water, at least eight
glasses of water per day, which helps make your stool softer and
as a result reduce straining.
The next important
factor in the prevention of hemorrhoids is toilet habits. Try to
pass the stool sooner than waiting for it to force you, as your
stool gets dry and hard with time, making it more difficult to pass.
Reducing the amount of strain put on your anus, is a major step
forward in the prevention of hemorrhoids. To avoid straining, it
is actually better for you to not sit on the toilet. Reading while
performing bowel movements is also a bad toilet habit. Another essential
and basic toilet habit is to wash the anus area and perform a gentle
tab using a towel to make the area dry.
Exercising is
the next factor that helps prevent hemorrhoids. Pressure builds
up in the hemorrhodial veins due to continuous sitting for longer
periods of time. Nowadays, most of the jobs require you to be seated
for longer duration together. However, you can perform certain activities
to help prevent hemorrhoids, even while doing your job. To avoid
unwanted rectal pressure, try to stand and walk around for 5 minutes
at least once an hour. This simple exercise can help prevent hemorrhoids
to a greater extent.
Symptoms
Symptoms of internal hemorrhoids include the stool appearing with
a bright red blood covering. The toilet paper or the toilet bowl
also may have the blood color. The internal hemorrhoids can protrude
to the outside of the body through the anus. When the hemorrhoids
are out they cause a greater level of pain and irritation. This
condition is known as protruding hemorrhoid. A painful swelling
or hard lumps around the anus resulting due to the formation of
a blood clot are symptoms of external hemorrhoids. This condition
is known as thrombosed external hemorrhoid. Some of the other common
symptoms include blood in stool, rectal bleeding, blood on toilet
paper, anal itching, anal swelling, anal lump, anal mucus discharge,
feeling of rectal fullness, feeling of unfinished defecation, and
severe rectal pain which occurs due to the strangulation of a vein.
